Our annual backpack deliveries serve an immediate need by providing essential items for students living in poverty to be set up for success at school. It also creates an opportunity to talk about the importance of education with families and students where the value of education can be lost. In many of our partnered schools, generations of parents have not had the opportunity to continue to high school and in many cases attend 7th grade. Our goal is to encourage students and families to believe in the possibilities when education is an option.
We are planting seeds for tomorrow while focusing on what is needed today.
Our GSWW team fundraise for our annual backpack deliveries during our Dollar A Mile campaign. Backpacks are packed by our Bay Area Ambassadors and hand delivered in November during our annual Ambassador led trip to Paraguay. Select Ambassadors who travel from the US work alongside our Paraguayan Ambassadors creating impact together.
Every student (girl and boy) at our partnered schools are gifted a backpack during our annual delivery. Each backpack includes school supplies for the student to personally own, new pair of sneakers, a Change One Change Thousands shirt to celebrate we are all on the same team, and a hygiene kit to help with health and nutrition needs.

85% of our Ambassadors in Paraguay were introduced to us through a backpack delivery. These girls receive scholarships to attend school while learning valuable life skills in our program to become leaders in their own community.
As a result of our backpack deliveries, girls have become the first in their family history to attend 7th grade, others to enroll in College.
