I luckily got to attend the trip twice. Once in 2018 and now this past November in 2019. I got a different feeling both times.
For me, the first trip changed my perspective on life and being more thankful for the small things. I was really trying to work on changing my attitude and not being so negative for such unnecessary reasons. The second trip was different, but of course in a good way, because I knew what to expect this time around.
I would say one of my favorite memories was giving backpacks and friendship bracelets to the students and meeting them one on one. Getting that alone time allowed us to reach that genuine connection that I’ll never forget. The kids that were in my group were so outgoing and LOVED playing soccer, just like me. Although my Spanish wasn’t the strongest, we were able to reach a strong friendship and express our love for the game together, which was so awesome.
This was the experience for me personally on my second trip to Paraguay with GSW. One of my goals coming home from the trip is to try and have everyone welcome others. I also want to make sure that everyone here takes time to see the bigger picture and slow their lives down.
In Paraguay, everyone is so friendly and kind hearted. They always take time out of their daily lives to say hi or even stop and have a conversation with someone. It was super fun this year, as was last year, and I’m excited to see where it leads everyone.
